Press Contact: Diane E. Crespy, (202) 547-2900

Washington, D.C., Feb. 14, 2001 - Alfred Affinito, National 5th Vice President, is coordinating a series of events commemorating the establishment of the Order Sons of Italy in America® (OSIA). Activities acknowledging this historical event will take place on the international, national, state and local levels and will culminate in the year 2005.

To kick off the centennial celebration, a contest is being held to select a logo marking the significance of the 100th anniversary. The contest will be open to citizens of all ages wishing to submit their artwork for juried consideration. The artistic rendering of the winning artist will appear on OSIA stationery, invitations, business cards, and a variety of merchandise, commemorating the centennial event.

The National Centennial Committee is urging participation by a broad spectrum of citizens in your community. The contest is not limited to members of OSIA. The contest is open immediately. All submissions must be received by June 4, 2001. The winners will be notified in July. State and filial lodge newspapers are encouraged to run a notice of the contest for the next several months.

The formal announcement of the winners will be made at the 47th OSIA National Biennial Convention, August 19-25, 2001. Prizes will be First Place, $3,500.00. Second Place, $1,500.00. Third Place, $250.00. There will be 97 awards of $25.00 each.
