Who Are We?
Italian America is the most widely read magazine for people of Italian heritage in the United States. It is a quarterly magazine and the official publication of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America® (OSDIA).
While most of the content is written in-house, four feature stories run in each issue. We pay for freelanced feature stories so if you are a writer and have a story idea, please read on to see what we’re looking for and how to submit a query!
What Do We Want?
We look for intriguing stories about Italian Americans that may involve such themes as history, travel, culture/heritage, achievements, contributions, and social issues. We are especially enthusiastic about story submissions that involve Italian American women. Stories that will incorporate an active scene will be given strong consideration.
Feature stories run from 900 to 1,500 words and must have 2-4 digital photos that are at least 300 DPI.
How to Query
If you have a story you’d like to write, send us a query that includes the opening of your story and a brief description of what the story will be about to Editor Miles Ryan Fisher.
We pay $350 per story. Payment is made after author’s final approval of the edited article.
We purchase non-exclusive worldwide periodical publication and syndication rights in all languages and mediums for the story and digitals. The magazine shares all syndication/reprint fees with the author, who retains full rights to the story.
