Sons of Italy Congratulates Pope Benedict XVI

Press Contact: Kylie Cafiero, (202) 547-2900 kcafiero@osia.org

WASHINGTON, D.C. - April 20, 2005

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ATTRIBUTE TO:

Joseph Sciame, National President, Order Sons of Italy in America

The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) extends its congratulations to Pope Benedict XVI.

I had the honor of meeting the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger several years ago. He impressed me as a man of deep faith, conviction and brilliance. For all of these reasons, I am convinced under his leadership the Roman Catholic church will thrive. Ad multos annos!

Mr. Sciame currently is in Italy for a series of meetings celebrating OSIA’s 100th anniversary and recognizing the contributions of early Italian immigrants.

Mr. Sciame is the Vice President of St. John’s University, which has a Rome campus near the Vatican.
