WASHINGTON,
D.C. - October 31, 2005 The
Order Sons of Italy in America
(OSIA), the nation's oldest
and largest organization for
men and women of Italian heritage,
congratulates Judge Samuel
A. Alito, Jr. on his nomination
to the United States Supreme
Court.
Judge Alito has a sterling
record of achievement that honors
both his family and his country.
The son of an Italian immigrant,
he was educated at Princeton
University and Yale Law School,
where he excelled in his studies.
A
former prosecutor and Justice
Department official, he was appointed
to the U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals for the 3rd Circuit by
President George H. W. Bush in
1990. As President George W.
Bush has noted, Judge Alito has
more judicial experience than
any other U.S. Supreme Court
nominee in more than 70 years.
The
Sons of Italy commends President
George W. Bush on this excellent
choice. We would point out that
Italian Americans constitute
the fifth largest ethnic group
in the nation. However, today
marks only the second time in
our history that a person of
Italian heritage has been nominated
to serve on the highest court
in the land. We thank President
Bush for this distinction.
We
are proud of Judge Alito's accomplishments
and confident in his ability
to interpret the Constitution
fairly and justly. We wish him
every success in his coming nomination
hearings.
ATTRIBUTE TO:
Vincent
Sarno, National President, Order Sons of Italy in
America
