Dona De Sanctis Stepping Down
As Sons of Italy Deputy Executive Director

 WASHINGTON,
D.C. - August 21, 2007 Dona De Sanctis, the deputy executive director of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), has resigned her position effective August 31. She will continue working for OSIA, however, as a consultant beginning September 1.
Dona came to OSIA in 2002 after 10 years with the National Italian American Foundation. For OSIA she produced Italian America magazine, directed the Sons of Italy CSJ’s anti-defamation activities and researched and wrote reports on Italian American history and achievements.
In her new position, she will continue to serve as editor-in-chief of Italian America magazine, the most widely read publication in the United States for people of Italian heritage. She also will produce the Order’s quarterly newsletter, OSIA Nation, that goes to the national, state and community leadership and work on special projects as assigned. The most significant change in her duties involves her advocacy work. As of September 1, she will not be involved in any OSIA or CSJ anti-defamation activities, initiatives or campaigns.
“After 15 years fighting defamation, it was time for me to step aside,” she says. “For personal reasons, I only wish to work part-time and will dedicate my efforts to developing our publications. My goal is to get Italian America magazine on the newsstands of as many cities as possible.”
Dona holds a Ph.D. in Italian and Comparative Literature and a Masters in Italian. Her doctoral dissertation was on literature and opera. Bilingual in Italian and English, she studied at the University of Rome on a Fulbright Grant and lived in the Italian capital for many years before returning to the United States.
“We are delighted that Dona will continue to be a part of our OSIA team – even if it is part-time,” says Dr. Philip R. Piccigallo, OSIA national executive director.
