Press Contact: Kylie Cafiero, (202) 547-2900 kcafiero@osia.org

WASHINGTON, D.C. - June 5, 2006 - The Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF), the nation's largest Italian American philanthropic organization is working with Global Experiences (GE), a US-based international education organization to create opportunities for students to study Italian and intern in Italy.

The first SIF/GE Italian Language and Internship scholarship has been awarded to Joseph Catania of Tuckahoe, NY. He will study Italian in Florence for one month and then intern with an Italian company in his field of study. Catania is one of 13 young Italian Americans who received a total of $100,000 in scholarships to leading colleges and universities at the SIF's 18th annual National Education & Leadership Awards (NELA) Gala in Washington, DC on May 25th. The 2007 SIF/GE Italian Language and Internship scholarship will be awarded at the 19th Annual NELA Gala on May 24, 2007.

"In an increasingly competitive world, international study and travel is essential to a student's education," says Vincent Sarno, Sons of Italy Foundation chairman. "The opportunities provided through Global Experiences are priceless to students of all backgrounds and we are proud to offer and support such a prestigious program."

In addition to scholarships, Global Experiences and the SIF are promoting US/Italy cultural exchange by offering discounts on GE programs to people of all ages who belong to the Order Sons of Italy in America.

"Global Experiences strives to help students better understand their role as citizens of the world," says Michael Greto, Global Experiences Director of Operations. "We are thrilled to be working with the SIF to further this mission."

The Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) is the philanthropic arm of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the nation's oldest and largest organization for people of Italian heritage. Over the years, the SIF has contributed more than $93 million to medical research, disaster relief, and scholarships.

Global Experiences was founded to help promote cultural exchange opportunities for individuals wanting to live, work and travel abroad. The industry leader in Italian internship programs, they also offer opportunities in Australia, Spain, France, and Ecuador.
