Sons of Italy Launches Career Connections Program for Young Italian Americans

WASHINGTON, March 12, 2003 – The Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA) will launch its new annual Career Connections program for college seniors and recent graduates on March 21-22 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The program puts young Italian Americans in contact with established professionals and experts in their field. The OSIA Career Connections 2003 will focus on careers in writing and publishing.

Participants will attend an OSIA literary conference and luncheon on March 21 featuring poet Dana Gioia, the new chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts; writers Paul Paolicelli and Adriana Trigiani; best-selling author Lorenzo Carcaterra; and editor Bill Tonelli, among others, who will discuss current trends in Italian American literature. The moderator is Chuck Conconi of Washingtonian magazine.

Following a private luncheon, the young participants will attend a career-building workshop with the panelists who will advise them on getting started in the publishing industry. Other program highlights include a Friday evening tour of the nation's capital and a Saturday morning visit to the Library of Congress.

Preference will be given to Italian American applicants. Participants are responsible for their transportation costs to and from Washington and for a portion of their lodging. OSIA will underwrite most meals, tours, all conference fees and partial lodging costs. Application deadline: March 14. To download an application, please visit www.osia.org.

Contact Michael Greto, OSIA director of youth and Italian programs, at 202/547-2900 or mgreto@osia.org.
