of Italy Launches Career Connections Program for Young
Italian Americans
WASHINGTON,
March 12, 2003 The Order Sons of Italy in America
(OSIA) will launch its new annual Career Connections program
for college seniors and recent graduates on March 21-22
at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The program
puts young Italian Americans in contact with established
professionals and experts in their field. The OSIA Career
Connections 2003 will focus on careers in writing and
publishing.
Participants will attend an OSIA literary conference and
luncheon on March 21 featuring poet Dana Gioia, the new
chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts; writers
Paul Paolicelli and Adriana Trigiani; best-selling author
Lorenzo Carcaterra; and editor Bill Tonelli, among others,
who will discuss current trends in Italian American literature.
The moderator is Chuck Conconi of Washingtonian magazine.
Following a private luncheon, the young participants will
attend a career-building workshop with the panelists who
will advise them on getting started in the publishing
industry. Other program highlights include a Friday evening
tour of the nation's capital and a Saturday morning
visit to the Library of Congress.
Preference will be given to Italian American applicants.
Participants are responsible for their transportation
costs to and from Washington and for a portion of their
lodging. OSIA will underwrite most meals, tours, all conference
fees and partial lodging costs. Application deadline:
