Lago
del Bosco, the Italian Language Village of Concordia
Language Villages, celebrated a successful inaugural
summer in 2003. More than 100 participants from
23 states joined a staff from all over the Italian-speaking
world to take part in one of two, two-weeks sessions
of immersion learning. These "villagers"
spent their days playing Italian sports and games;
taking part in Italian art, music, and theater activities;
and enjoying delicious and authentic Italian meals
entirely in the Italian language!
Programming will continue at Lago del Bosco
in the summer of 2004. Along with two, two-week
sessions, the Village will also offer a four-week
high school credit session. For a listing of dates
for sessions at Lago del Bosco in summer
2004, visit the Language Villages' Web site: www.ConcordiaLanguageVillages.org.

College
Board Adds Italian to AP Program
Italian teachers interested in receiving formal
announcements of all professional development opportunities
should send their contact information to apitalian@collegeboard.org.
It is important that Italian teachers be offered
additional opportunities to gain insights on AP
course content and new pedagogical methodologies
and resources, and these could be offered as professional
development through school districts, in collaboration
with local universities and the department of education
in the various states. The national American Association
of Teachers of Italian will explore the possibilities
of requesting grants for special AP training and
workshops offered by various federal agencies.
