WASHINGTON, DC, June 15, 2012 - A series of earthquakes and aftershock rocked the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna in late May, killing 24 people, injuring hundreds, leaving thousands homeless and costing the region into the hundreds of millions – and as high as a billion dollars (various estimates) – in damage and lost productivity.
The area is one of Italy’s most active agriculture and industrial centers. In addition to the total destruction of centuries-old buildings, barns, modern factories and warehouses that store Italy’s prized cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano were among the other structures destroyed, impacting the country’s already troubled economy.
As we have done many times before with your support, the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) has set up an Earthquake Relief Fund to help the region recover from this disaster. All donations to this fund are tax-deductible. The SIF will be working directly with the Embassy of Italy to direct funds to emergency relief, recovery and/or rebuilding as requested by the Italian Government.
Please help our brothers and sisters in Italy at this critical time. On behalf of those that need our help, we THANK YOU for your support!
