Thank you for visiting us to learn more about A CURE IS IN SIGHT, OSIA's newest project to help find a cure for Cooley's anemia, the deadly blood disorder that affects people of Italian descent.
A CURE IS IN SIGHT utilizes supermarkets, banks and other high-traffic businesses to raise awareness of Cooley's anemia and to help lodges raise funds for the Cooley's anemia research.
If you've already donated,
THANK YOU! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
Also called thalassemia, Cooley's anemia is a fatal genetic blood disorder for which there is currently no universal cure.
Children born with Cooley's anemia require lifelong blood transfusions as often as every two weeks and must undergo a daily drug treatment that may involve pumping a drug into their bodies for 8-12 hours every night. Even with this grueling treatment, life expectancy is significantly shortened.
For more information, visit the Cooley's Anemia Foundation at cooleysanemia.org.
Here is how it works:
This is very similar to our canister program. Brothers and sisters of the Order approach local businesses and tell them why you are involved with OSIA and Cooley's anemia.
The OSIA member asks if the business would like to show support for the A CURE IS IN SIGHT project and shows them the Cure is in Sight Pads.
If they are willing to help they can either give a $50 donation payable to the OSIA Grand Lodge of the member's state or they can display the pads and ask their customers if they are willing to add their names to a binocular image that will be posted on the wall. They should collect $1.00 for each binocular image.
Remember to check in with your business partners often to see if they are doing okay selling the Binocular images and collecting donations.
If you or your lodge would like to help with this project and talk to businesses in your area about participating, please contact Alyssa Youngerman at a.youngerman@cooleysanemia.org or (212) 279-8090. The state with the highest number of binoculars sold will be specially recognized.
Thank you!
